~ HINTS & TIPS -
CARING FOR YOUR COLLECTION ~
After being a collector of
Spice Girls merchandise for 19 years, I have some experience in
buying & caring for Spice Girls merchandise. Here are some
tips I've learned & researched over the years.
Caring For Your
- Keep magazines, articles
& posters (that come in magazines) in plastic sleeves
& file them in binders, this protects them &
keeps them in pristine condition
- Keep bigger posters
brought from stores in cylinder postage containers or
- Over time CD cases can
break, get scratched or just appear old so, to make your
cd collection look as good as new, go through your other
CD collection and replace the old cases with newer ones
in better condition.
- DVD & Video cases also
become aged or broken over time - these are easier to
replace - just buy some empty cases from a bargin store -
or as above get one from your other collection
- Try to keep your
collection away from direct sunlight - this fades &
also damages certain items
- Where possible keep items
in the original packaging unopened
- Never leave discs out of
- Cardboard cassette covers
are very easily damaged - especially since some already
have perforated edges, so put them in a plastic cassette
case (without the spindles in the middle as they will put
holes in the case)
- Keep all extra items from
CD's (posters, postcards, stickers) in the cases they
- All of my articles are in
plastic sleeves in arch lever folders organised by year,
this is a great way to keep them in good condition,
organised and easy to refer to.
- Clean items with a damp
cloth dipped in warm soapy water - very gently.
- Try to use acid free paper
& plastic when displaying / mounting any items.
- To avoid losing smaller
items (e.g. Dolls extra items like clothes, shoes &
microphones) store them safetly (mine are in my metal
- Avoid using tape.
- Try to avoid exposing your
collection to a smoking environment.
- When scrapbooking your
clippings, don't EVER glue them in. Use double sided tape
[make sure it's special tape that won't ruin your
clippings - I found this out the hard way and a lot of my
clippings are marked now) as this avoids the clippings
crinkling due to moisture and also enables you to have
more flexability if you decide you want to change the
look of your collection.
