~ HINTS & TIPS -
SHOPPING ON EBAY ~
eBay is like a gold mine for
Spice Girls collectors. It is often the only place to buy certain
Spice Girls merchandise, and after shopping for Spice Girls
merchandise on eBay since 1999, I've learned a few things to help
eBay Do's & Don'ts
- DO bid on lots with
multiple items needed - it saves postage & you often
get items for a fraction of the price of buying singular
- DO, when at all possible,
pay with PayPal - it's the safest way to pay as there is
an insurance policy via PayPal.
- DO always check the
sellers feedback - as much as you might be tempted to bid
straight away, make sure that you at least check the
sellers feedback to see what other buyers have thought.
- DO review specifics before
bidding - example if you are after a CD with a poster or
postcard, make sure it comes with them before bidding.
- DO review postage &
payment details - you don't want to have to pay an
unexpected postage charge or find out the item can't be
sent to you. You also don't want to find out the seller
doesn't accept your method of payment.
- DO check out completed
listings to see what the item you're bidding on usually
sells for - it gives you an idea of what you can expect
- DO in the case of
identical item listings, bid on the one in your country
as shipping is usually a lot less (make sure it works out
- DO also search for
alternate spellings as people often list items with
- DO look closely at
pictures to check for defects to avoid dissapointment
- DO check around and do
research (like at Viva Spice! lol) to make sure the price
is fair for the item you want
- DO try to bid on items by
the same seller - they usually offer postage discounts if
- DO launch a dispute if you
don't recieve an item you paid for - make sure you aren't
ripped off. eBay are very good at making sure buyers get
refunds for items not recieved.
- DO still buy lots that
include some things you already have - you can always
sell then on eBay or even here on VivaSpice.
- DO bid with odd numbers
like 9.96 or 3.98 for example - a lot of times that 1 or
2 cents is enough to win you the auction.
- DON'T bid on something
that looks too good to be true - it usually is (ie. fake
item, highly damaged)
- DON'T wait until the last
minute to bid. Often I place a bid for the reserve amount
in the first day or two of the auction and win. You can
always keep an eye on the auction and bid again, but it
is easy to forget about a certain item, so if I see an
item I really want I always bid when I see it.
- DON'T buy fake copies of
Victoria's denim (there is a plethora of fakes on eBay -
go HERE to learn how to spot a fake)
- DON'T bid on multiple
auctions of the same item unless you are willing to buy
them all, as you will have to pay if you win.
- DON'T launch phony
disputes. This puts prices up for all eBay users.
- DON'T try to buy eBay
items out of the eBay site. This is against eBay policy
and if you don't recieve the item you paid for, you
- DON'T buy from a seller
that has a lot of disgruntled customers. [Always read the
- DON'T bid and not pay.
Once you bid on an item on eBay it is considered a
contract. This means you must buy the item.
- DON'T send other Spice
Girls collectors the link of an active auction you hope
to win. The more bidders, the higher the price.
