~ SELL US YOUR VHS - STEP BY STEP ~
STEP 1 - GO THROUGH YOUR TAPES & MAKE A LIST OF FOOTAGE
This really is the best place to start as that way you can cross reference with our "Need" list, as well as remind yourself what you actually have. The best way to make your footage list is digitally, as, when it comes time to let me know what footage you have, all you'll have to do is email me the file. I recommend using Notepad for a simple list or Excel for a more detailed list. [If you can no longer play VHS, that's ok but, as there's no way to know what's on your tapes, there will be a price reduction]. Please also make a note of any quality issues.
STEP 2 - CHECK THE CONDITION OF YOUR TAPES
VHS tapes are prone to moisture damage [eg: mould] as well as general use damage. However, before you bin those tapes that you think are beyond repair, don't be so hasty. I've been dealing with VHS tapes for over 20 years and I am able to repair most problems with VHS tapes including broken tape [ie. the actual reel of tape has snapped], any damage to the outer casing & reels [I have LOADS of spare parts including reels, screws, springs and more] and more. Please contact me if you think your tapes need repairing [I'll do this for free and send them back to you if I can make copies of anything I need]
STEP 3 - PROOF OF EXISTANCE
To try to protect myself, I will need some sort of proof that the tapes you are selling do infact exist. The best way I suppose is via photographic evidence - whether it's photos of the tapes themselves, photos of you checking out what's on your tapes etc. If you are unsure of this step, please contact me and we'll work it out together.
STEP 4 - CONTACT ME WITH YOUR LIST AND ANY DETAILS
Once you've got your list done and noted any issues with footage quality or tape damage, then it's time to contact me! Email me with the following details:
Number Of Tapes: [Please note that I'll probably do a max of 4 tapes at a time]
What Price You Expect For Them:
Any Quality / Damage Issues
Whether Tapes Are Recorded Or Traded:
[And don't forget to attach your list to the email!]
Then all you have to do is wait for me to contact you to start negotiations.
STEP 5 - NEGOTIATING PRICING
Now, as I said on my "What We Do" page, I am open to negotiating the prices of tapes. My rough guideline is between $5.00 AU upto $20.00 AU per tape + postage costs. However, I am willing to increase pricing in certain situations & for certain tapes or footage. I'm not going to disclose what I want most or what I'll pay more for as this will negate my negotiation and could also lead to my being tricked to pay more for footage I don't really want / need, but suffice to say the rarer your footage and the more of it that is on each tape, the more you will get for your tapes. You also need to make sure you find out accurate postage costs so you aren't out of pocket.
STEP 6 - SORTING OUT PAYMENT
I will only pay for the tapes through PayPal as it protects both parties and makes sure, as I'm putting myself out there in regards to offering to paying money for an item that may not exisit or may not be what was promised, I need to have some protection for myself.
Other than that, I have set up a special "PayPal" account to deal with all transactions to do with this service which will be passed on to you via email once we've agreed on price.
STEP 7 - POSTING THE TAPES
Once you've recieved your payment and everything is completed and cleared, it's time to post the tapes. Please make sure they are packaged carefully as it will help protect them during transit. I suggest using tough, padded parcel bags to offer ultimate protection. And that's it - transaction done :)
