The Story: 1972 - 1987 - In The Beginning

Geraldine Estelle Halliwell was born in Watford, UK on August 6, 1974. Growing up in Watford, Geri didn't have an afluent upbringing and was often teased at school as she usually wore second hand clothes.

Geri attended Watford Grammar School and was a huge fan of Madonna - even making notes in her diary about Madonna's latest chart positions and success. Geri was also a huge fan of UK band Wham - especially George Michael.

1988 - 1994 - The Rise Of A Star

Geri was very ambitious and as Geri's mother Ana Maria was very cautious when it came to the world of entertainment - Geri wasn't allowed to audition until she turned 16. Leaving home at 16 to begin her showbiz career Geri took an assorrtment of jobs - including an aerobics instructer, a barmaid, a cleaner, a club dancer in Marjorca, Spain, she was a gameshow hostess in Turkey, and also did some, now infamous, glamour modelling.

All the while Geri was hungry for fame - and after contstant auditions for TV [Fashion Police, Trash Talk and more] and Movie roles [Tank Girl - where she met Victoria] she couldn't seem to land her dream job.

1994 - 1995 - The Beginnings Of Spice

In 1994 Geri saw an ad in showbiz newspaper 'The Stage" for auditions for a girl group. After not being able to make the first auditions, she rang the auditions' organisers and got herself a spot in the final round of auditons. After securing a spot in the final 5 - along with Victoria Adams, Melanie C, Melanie B & Michelle Stevenson - Geri was finally on her way to success. With the leaving of Michelle and the addition of Emma Bunton, the band that would be the Spice Girls was complete, and Geri and the other girls worked hard in vocal coaching and rehearsals to perfect their performances. Things wasn't always great though and Geri battled with eating disorders throughout this time. After the girls showcase in November 1994, the girls - instigated by Geri & Melanie B - decided to leave their management and strike out on their own. Geri, Melanie C & Melanie B lived together in a flat for while and after finally securing a manager in Simon Fuller and a record deal with Virgin, Spice Girls - and Geri - where on their way.

1996 - 1998 - Spice Girls

From 1996 the Spice Girls dominated charts, airwaves and column inches all over the world & Geri was always widely considered the leader of the group and she always helped to keep them in the news, whether it was pinching Prince Charles on the bottom, wearing that now infamous Union Jack dress at the 97 Brit Awards, or the ultimate one - leaving the group while it was at it's peak - just before the US Tour. Geri officially left the Spice Girls on May 31st 1998, citing "differences between us". Later she said conflicting tv appearances, not allowing her to do a Breat Cancer interview was the catylist, although she says that she had told the girls that she wanted to leave after their gig at Wembley Stadium in Spettember '98. The Spice Girls lost their "Ginger"

1998 - Life After Spice Girls

In the last half of 1998 Geri was never out of the news. Whether it was her first interview post Spice Girls, the auctioning of her "Spice Girls" costumes, performing "Happy Birthday" for Prince Charles at his birthday concert, becoming a UN ambassador or signing a solo record deal, every move she made was covered.
